Malaysia sees well over  an average half a million medical tourists — most from around Asia — each year due to the country’s, well -qualified doctors and paramedical staff, superior infrastructure and  affordable price. Malaysian hospitals offer services at around one-fifth the price of Western facilities. English is widely spoken in the country and there is no language problem. The country has  medical facilities that rival any developed  countries. It has also  set up agencies to attract hundreds of thousands of medical tourists for treatment for anything from burns to heart conditions.

The Prince Court Medical Center in Kuala Lumpur is  ranked the  number one hospital for “patients without borders” by the Medical Travel Quality Alliance.

As Sherene Azli, Chief Executive Officer of MHTC, said recently, the government is putting a lot of efforts “to position Malaysia as a premier healthcare destination regionally and globally. With the strong backing of our government, the assurance of quality health care and the accolades received, it certainly reinforces the fact that Malaysia has all the makings to be the world’s leading healthcare provider, and that is what we will continue to strive towards.”

In a recent announcement, Paul  Simmons, Chief Commercial Officer of Malaysia Airlines,  said, as part of the government initiative, the  national airline is providing discounted tickets to those  who  visit the country for medical purposes. The scheme is for one year.  He said, “ Guests who choose Malaysia for health tourism will have the opportunity to benefit from the internationally accredited medical facilities as well as the beauty and tranquillity of Malaysia to recuperate in.”
