Now the world recognizes the many benefits of yoga for
the mind, body, and the soul as yet another World Yoga Day arrived on June 21, 2022.
Two key issues hitting the body and mind are indigestion and tension. Tension
causes indigestion and indigestion very often leads to tension also. So
battling both with yogas has become a preferred mode among many health-conscious
nowadays.
Acid reflux and other indigestion issues can be
tackled to an extent with dietary adjustments but when yoga relieves stress, the
path becomes doubly effective, especially with regard to tackling gastro-oesophageal
reflux disease or GERD or even peptic ulcers.
The major asanas that help tackle indigestion are Sukhasana,
Apanasana and Paschimottanasana. Apanasana helps release excess pressure from
the digestive tract and lower back and helps stretch the pelvis and lower back.
Sukasana helps in strengthening the back muscles, lengthening the spine while
improving the body posture. Doing this asana you will be able to relax the body
and mind and deal with anxiety and stress effectively. With Paschimottanasana, Yoga
experts say, you stretch your spine, hamstrings and shoulders and relieve and
calm your body and mind. It helps in the functioning of the liver and kidneys
and boosts digestion. The asana helps women a lot who are able to stimulate
their ovaries and uterus.
As Yoga master B K S Iyegngar puts it “Yoga does not
change the way we see things, it transforms the person who sees.” He also adds:
“Yoga is a light which once lit will never dim.The better you practice, the
brighter your flame.”
