Kochi, Nov 3: The super specialty teaching hospital of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham at Kochi has successfully completed its 12th hand transplant
surgery.
Gulnora (45), an Uzbekistan citizen who underwent hand transplant surgery at
Amrita Hospital in Kochi, completed a month-long treatment and cheerfully
returned to her homeland. She had lost her hands in an accident that occurred
at the workplace.
She received donated limbs harvested from Anita, a native of Nagercoil, who was
declared brain dead at KIMS Hospital, Thiruvananthapuram, on September 21,
2022.
Her hands were airlifted to Kochi, and the doctors at Amrita Hospital
successfully attached them to Gulnoara's in a 16-hour surgery.
Gulnora will be able to move her hands completely after undergoing follow-up
treatments, including physiotherapy.
